Program Note

Axonic is a sound illustration of a massive control console, like the ones found on state-of-the-art mixers in recording studios. A hypothetical user is presented with a playground of dials, buttons, sliders, and flashing lights that control all aspects of the sound produced by the saxophone ensemble, such as volume, panning, brightness, echo, crossfades, and more. The user has a field day messing with all the controls, forcing the ensemble to create all sorts of unusual sounds while at the same time attempting to create a cohesive and sensical form to their auditory abomination.
