For Chamber Winds
Difficulty: Advanced
Duration: 4'
Year: 2026
Written for the Newfound Chamber Winds for their residency at Michigan State University
Program Note

Hit the Ground Running is a short, high-energy concert opener for chamber winds. A constant stream of sixteenth notes drives the music forward, weaving through the ensemble as it is passed between instruments. The piece moves through several energy-building episodes, each expanding on a light, springy melodic theme. As the energy builds, the music pushes toward its most energetic climax before rushing ahead and fading into the distance, disappearing from both sight and sound.
